In order to have LAMP(Linux-Apache-phpmyadmin-MySQL ) running in your system open up terminal and run following commands :

sudo apt-get install apache2
sudo apt-get install php5 libapache2-mod-php5
sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-server
sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin
sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-auth-mysql php5-mysql

If sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-auth-mysql php5-mysql producing an error message try to install :

sudo apt-get install mysql-server php5-mysql phpmyadmin

Restart apache :

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

Set a password for it.
Then open up the browser and give http://localhost to the url.
also check for http://localhost/phpmyadmin

In many case localhot/phpmyadmin does not work for the first time, it shows a 404 error message. Reason being, apache need to be restarted. So in order to do that apply following commands :

sudo ln -s /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d/phpmyadmin.conf

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 reload
